Getting a good night sleep can lead to a healthy brain. Adequate sleep is also linked to better mood, memory, and diet. Yet, when asked, many of my teen patients report they don’t get enough sleep. Recent studies indicate that at least ½ of US adolescents are sleep deprived. Sleep deficits are even greater among kids who are economically disadvantaged. Several ideas have been suggested around the world to combat the sleep deficit epidemic such as limiting screen time and delaying school start times.
